"Three...two...one...? Wooooo!" With the flip of a switch, the 2012 Capitol Christmas Tree lights up. ? "The Christmas tree is a means of retelling the miracle of Jesus' birth that happened over 2,000 years ago. And we tell it in a colorful and beautiful way," Gov. Robert Bentley told the crowd gathered on the Capitol steps.? Craig Hayles helped to transport the tree. "It takes a little bit of equipment and personnel. But everything goes real well," said Hayles. The Garden Club of Alabama hosted the ceremony on the Capitol steps. Fourth and Fifth graders from Holy Cross Episcopal School helped to get everyone into the holiday spirit. After the ceremony it was time for the Montgomery Christmas parade. With marching bands and a flurry of lights, floats made their way down Dexter Avenue delighting kids of all ages. ?"I'm actually here to see my sister. There's one of them coming up marching with the city... They usually do a good job. I was once a drill team Came out here to support them," said Javoana Bethel. Kids got to see their favorite characters... and even the smallest of 4 legged friends. "I'm loving it. It's my first time out here. My son he is only 10 months old. He's loving the parade and lights and everything so it's great," said Stacy McElhaney. Even CBS 8 had our own festive float with some familiar faces waving to the crowd helping to spread some holiday cheer. "We decided to stay for the parade. it's wonderful. it's a wonderful event. Beautiful city, beautiful night," said Jedy Ledford.
