?Physical Theatre Intensive:
The Physical Theatre Intensive (Class by Hossein Mardani) process begins with a quest for silence. A calm, neutral state of mind is critical to unlocking genuine curiosity. And it is from this position of unprejudiced curiosity that an actor can embark on the journey of discovering his or her true, dynamic nature. During class , students will explore and examine everything from colors and physical textures to poetry and music, using their entire bodies as tools. These playful investigations will form the foundation of the actors? characters.
Through play, in class I aim to develop original expressions of emotion by exploring the relationships between a student?s physical environment and his or her innate, and sometimes hidden, characteristics.
The Process:
The usefulness of uselessness.?Curiosity is doubtlessly a quality shared by the child and the artist, which allows them to evolve and learn outside the idea of immediate result. Likewise, during class, we explore with curiosity, the movements, the dynamics of situations and of theatrical styles.
The process in class will be intense. The Physical Theatre Intensive is designed to stimulate and to provoke, but never to encourage you to develop a rigid approach to acting. If students leave with more questions than they arrived with, that?s a good class.
Hossein Mardani?s Biography:
Mardani graduated with a Master?s Degree in Theatre from the HKU school of the Arts in Holland. The HKU acting method is based on the principals pioneered by Jacques Lecoq, emphasizing physical theatre, commedia del arte, and mask work. During and after his formal education, Mardani worked intensively with his teacher and mentor, Nader Farman, who studied with Geoffrey Rush at L?Ecole Jacques Lecoq in Paris. Since his graduation in 2002, Mardani has worked successfully in many theatre productions, films and TV series in Europe. Now based in Los Angeles, he is branching out into teaching, utilizing Lecoq?s pedagogy as his primary reference.
